Do you need help with a writing project?

Does the idea of writing give you the willies?

When you think about writing, does your heart race and your palms sweat and do you immediately start looking for any distraction to delay or avoid it?

You’re not alone. Thousands of people suffer from scriptophobia, which is the clinical term for the fear of writing.  Even if you’re not clinically a scriptophobe, you may have a serious aversion to writing, or you just lack the desire and confidence to express yourself in a written form.

Don’t despair.  There’s help.

You can hire professional writers for virtually any type of writing endeavor. Maybe you need compelling headlines for on-line or print ads, or you need a consistent source of blog and web content. Perhaps your boss asked you to prepare a written technical report, or it’s time to share your life and wisdom through an autobiography but the idea of writing it is a roadblock.

Regardless of the type of writing you need, there are professionals to help. But be sure to hire a writer who is proficient in the specific type of writing you need, and that she/he is a native speaker in the appropriate language. After all, the skills needed to write a new product instruction manual are not the same skills needed to write motivating ad copy.

I have real world experience in all forms of writing; copywriting, content, instructional, technical and long form narrative. I’m a native English speaker, and a great listener so I can help you formulate your thoughts, then get them down on paper, or out on the internet.

Don’t let the fear of writing keep you from utilizing this powerful form of communication. If you need the brakes replaced on your truck or the carpet cleaned in your home, you wouldn’t feel bad hiring professionals to do those tasks. Compelling written communication is just as technical and requires specific skills. When you need a professional writer, I can help.

Call or text me at 503-804-0045.

About the Writer

PEGGY DENT, Author, Writer
It seems like I’ve spent a lifetime writing.
I went to school forever (BS, MS, and several years of additional post graduate study) so that might have helped to create the impression that I have been writing forever.

I also worked for many years, in a research capacity and all my work was documented through technical reports. Then as a business owner I've been involved in creating blog and web content, ads and articles, and a host of other written communications. Then, if that wasn’t enough, I wrote a book and I’m currently working on three more, along with writing for two on-line magazines.

I guess I’ve spent a lifetime writing because I like it. Unlike oral communications, you can delete and rewrite a sentence as many times as needed to get it just right. That’s why my delete key wears out before all the rest of the keys on the keyboard.

Copywriting

This is a specific type of writing. It is the shortest form of commercial written expression and it has one goal, to motivate readers to action.

The action of the reader may be thoughtful (to ponder, consider, or at the very least to remember) or actionable, (to call, text, email, like, share, enroll, click the button below, etc). Good copy writing is short and memorable. For example,

“Sign and then drive” campaign from Volkswagen,
“Can you hear me now?” from Verizon,
“If the shoe fits, wear it”, from Ryka Shoes.

Good copywriting needs to connect with readers immediately, and on a personal level. Copywriting is both a unique talent and a developed skill. I have written ad copy for a wide array of products and projects. I think this way! If you need compelling copy that hits multiple human triggers, call me.

Technical & Instructional

Technical or instructional manuals, reports, research summaries, and how-to guides are all part of the writing spectrum that involve research, or scientific specificity. In many cases this type of writing involves rewriting technical reports with data for a consumable audience. Carefully conducted research may be too technical to be understood by laymen and the findings need to be rewritten for popular consumption. Technical writers are also used to create new product user’s guides or installation manuals. I have written technical reports for urban planning projects and new system procedure manuals. If you’ve done the research but need the report translated to layman’s terms call me to discuss your project.

Content

The vast majority of digital text falls in the category of content. Blog posts, website text, product descriptions, editorial or opinion news, and social media posts are all forms of content and the written word (as opposed to video, photographic, data, and graphic content) is the backbone of this vast trove of information.

There are over 5 billion mobile internet users worldwide, and their need for consumable data extends to multiple exabytes (1 exabyte = 1 billion gigabytes). A huge percentage of that consumable data is in the form of written content.

Written content is also used in print and online newsletters, long form sales letters, in print marketing materials, catalog descriptions, and documentation. I have written content in a wide variety of field and if you need a specific written document or a stream of ongoing content related to a specific subject, ask me. No, I cannot write with authority about every highly technical subject, but I have written content relevant to a wide array of topics. Ask me about your specific need. If I can’t write it, I can help you find someone who can.

Biography or Ghost-Written Autobiography

This is long form pros and when completed it results in a book. I have experience in this style of writing and published my first book in 2016 on an obscure subject. You might ask why would anyone bother to write a book about bat wings (ok, it wasn’t that obscure) but the point is, if I can write a 60,000 word book about an obscure subject, and receive international best-selling status on Amazon, how much more likely will I be able to write your story.

The secrets of being a great ghost writer are listening skills and empathy, and I excel in both areas. If you’re ready to write your autobiography, let's discuss it.  I’ll do the writing, but your name will be on the book as the author, and only you and I will know that I was the pen in your hand.
